The World Congress of Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences will be hosting the 12th installment of their WC series from August 27–31 in Niagara Falls, Canada! Join industry experts from academia, industry, government, and non-profit organizations to discuss ways the 3Rs—to reduce, refine, and replace animal models—can be promoted in research. Lorna Ewart, Chief Scientific Officer at Emulate, will be joining a panel session on the most important challenges microphysiological systems (MPS) like Organ-Chips, organoids, and other next-generation alternative models face on the road to regulatory acceptance.

Putting All the Chips on the Table! Doubling Down on Regulatory Acceptance of MPS

Microphysiological systems (MPS) such as organoids, Organ-Chips, and bioprinted tissues, have emerged as a prominent platform for emulating human biology in vitro. Despite studies having demonstrated the ability of MPS to faithfully recapitulate normal and aberrant physiological functions, regulatory acceptance of this class of models remains a significant hurdle.

In this session, Lorna Ewart, Chief Scientific Officer at Emulate, will join a panel of experts representing technology developers, industry stakeholders, and government regulators to discuss key challenges in the field, including technological capabilities/gaps, validation/confidence building, and regulatory considerations/context-of-use for diverse applications. The aim of the session is to draft a strategic roadmap toward regulatory acceptance of MPS by examining critical issues and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
