National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs)

The NC3Rs is the UK’s national organisation which leads the discovery and application of new technologies and approaches to replace, reduce and refine the use of animals for scientific purposes (the 3Rs).

We collaborate with scientists and organisations from across the life sciences sector nationally and internationally, including universities, the pharmaceutical, chemical and consumer products industries, other research funders, and regulatory authorities.
We fund 3Rs research, training and career development, support open innovation and commercialisation of 3Rs technologies, and stimulate changes in policy, regulations and practice relating to the use of animals.

The Non-Animal Technologies Special Interest Group (NAT SIG)

The Non-Animal Technologies Special Interest Group (NAT SIG) has been established to connect the research and business communities in the development and application of novel technologies that have the potential to transform business and improve product development across a range of industries, and reduce reliance on animal models.

Poorly predictive animal models are a cause of high attrition rates in pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical chemical development, representing a major financial burden for industry. The NAT SIG will build a research community harnessing recent technological advances and the latest knowledge in human safety, health and disease to generate new technologies with predictive capacity, or to extend existing technologies to new application areas.

The NAT SIG is a partnership between the National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs) and Innovate UK, and is supported by the Knowledge Transfer Network.
